How I Classified The Cars?
Since there are no car classes in TXR3 like there are in the earlier games, I'm putting the cars into different classes based on their performance when stock. Their performances when tuned isn't relevant to this. For example, the Pontiac Firebird starts at a pathetic 92 PS but has 557 PS when fully tuned, which is more than most fully tuned B class cars.
Class A
Cars with more than 240 PS and weigh less than 1600 kg, except for the Mitsubishi GTO and Nissan Pulsar GTI-R.This class mainly consists of grand tourers, muscle cars, and supercars.
Class B
Cars with more than 240 PS but weigh more than 1600 kg.Turbocharged cars with more than 160 PS.Naturally aspirated cars with more than 180 PS.This class mainly consists of medium sport cars and luxury sedans.
Class C
Turbocharged cars with less than 160 PS.Naturally aspirated cars with less than 180 PS.This class mainly consists of small sport cars, daily commuters, classics, and Kei cars.
CAR UNLOCKS
A. Starter Cars
Cars you can buy at the start of the game. You can choose an expensive car which leaves you very little money but can be used for long-term, or for a challenge buy a cheaper car which leaves you a decent amount of money for modifications.

Information
The tune up costs include the maximum level brakes and reinforcements and not including aero parts. The minimum weight stated is the minimum possible weight of the car, which means all the weight-adding parts are removed (brakes, reinforcements, spoiler, fenders, increased rims size) and full natural dry carbon body parts. The maxed out stats of the custom cars are mostly identical to that of their non-custom counterparts. The most expensive car to max out is the Ford GT Concept at $2,733,640 and the cheapest is the Daihatsu Move at $102,860.The most expensive Japanese car to max out is the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R at $788,980 and the cheapest foreign car to max out is the Volkswagen Golf GTi at $227,230.The Pontiac Firebird has the biggest power increase (465 PS - 505,4%) and torque increase (50,0 kgm - 279,3%) of all cars.Maxed out, the Mazda RX-7 Type RZ has the best power to weight ratio of all cars in the game.Maxed out, the Mercedes-Benz S600 L is the most powerful tunable car and the second most powerful overall with 740 PS, but it weighs as much as a house and the handling is predictably bad.

CARS TO AVOID
0. General Info
+ The cars listed here are mostly underperformers instead of straight up bad cars.
+ I'm not gonna put cars like the Suzuki Wagon R or the Toyota Vitz because everyone know they are bad.
1. Dodge Viper GTS (VGTS)
Pros:
+ It has 6 gears.
+ Unlike most foreign cars, it has custom aero parts.

+ Poor peak performance despite its reputation and combined cost. Mediocre weight to power ratio (2,21 kg/PS) and top speed (212 mph).
2. Chevrolet Corvette C4 (CY15BK)
Pros:
+ It's pretty cheap for an A class foreign car, but there are way better Japanese cars you can buy and max out with the C4's combined cost at $69,000 to buy and $735,260 to max out. Or alternatively, get the WEST Corvette C4.

+ It has a terrible weight to power ratio which is worse than many C class cars at 2,95 kg/PS.
+ It is very expensive at $128,000 to buy and $1,357,120 to max out. Definitely not worth the money.

License Plate Guide
There are at least six wanderers who have license plate related requirements.
The red box above the numbers indicate the prefecture, and in the guide it is shown as RX-CX. R indicates the row and C indicates the column. For example, Osaka wanderer Mister Orange Road requires a R17-C3 plate, which means the character in row 17 column 3.
The blue box is the Kana text and it's used only for the Wanderer Maniac Bun Bun Maru. He requires the "Ro" character which is in the bottom right next to the character Y, which is for vehicles owned by United States military personnel stationed in Japan.
Funabashi Hooligan Special
Wanderer #270 Funabashi Hooligan requires you to visit all pit areas in Tokyo. There are 20 pit areas in total and I'm going to help with the locations.

Pit Area Locations
Locations may not be pinpoint, just an estimation.
Whirlwind Fanfare Special
Whirlwind Fanfare's requirement is to have 100,000,000 credits which is impossible to get in the US version of the game due to the money cap of 99,999,990 credits. This is caused by a mistake in currency conversion. The credits in the Japanese version is the equivalent of Japanese Yen, while the credits in the American version is the equivalent of US Dollars.
The game didn't convert her requirements for the newly adjusted currency and even if there was no money cap, it would take forever to reach that amount. To give you an idea, ¥100,000,000 was around $917,431 (November 2003 exchange rates) which should've been the requirement for the US version. When you thought earning $20,000,000 for Exotic Butterfly was tedious enough, TXR3 begged to differ.
Sadly, it's impossible to beat the game without the use of Gameshark, Action Replay, or similar cheating devices due to this.
White Tiger Special
White Tiger is a wanderer that can be encountered as early as Tokyo stage 1 and he drives a white Toyota MR-2 GT, also the earliest possible way to unlock one of the most underrated Class A cars. However, his requirement was still unclear and a friend from the TXR Discord server sent me a guide to him.
You have to do some maths to guess when he's gonna appear. He appears at Monday in the first week (day 1), Tuesday in the second week (day 9), Wednesday in the third week (day 17), and so on. However after Friday of the fifth week (day 33), the pattern resets. He's gonna appear again at Monday in the sixth week (day 36).
To summarize, White Tiger appears on these days:
Monday: 1+35x (days 1, 36, 71, 106, etc)
Tuesday: 9+35x
Wednesday: 17+35x
Thursday: 25+35x
Friday: 33+35x
Sub Garage Tip for Magazine Z
Magazine Z is an Osaka wanderer who drives a Nissan 280Z-T. His requirement is to own four Fairlady Z models (240Z, HGZ31, GCZ32, and 350Z) and race him with the 350Z. You should have at least four empty slots in your garage to buy all the required cars. Say goodbye to your favorite cars? Fortunately you don't have to.
While you can only store 5 cars in your main garage, you have 15 additional garage slots in your sub garage. This way, you can meet his requirements without selling all your cars. First, you go to the sub garage menu and it will display your main garage. You can move the cars in your main garage except the car you were driving at the moment. Drive, tune, or sell a sub garage car by moving the car you want to the main garage.
However, be very careful when you save. You wouldn't want to lose the cars in your sub garage because you saved it to the wrong memory card.
Rival #600
After beating everyone, it's finally time to face the penultimate rival of the game. Who's #600? Find it out yourself.
Rewards for beating the game?
$10,000,000 prize money.
Engine swap unlocked by default, you won't have to grind for it.
You can start a new game with the cars from your previous garage.

Jinsoul's Tips
1. Never buy HG tires, they are a waste of money. Slick tires are better on dry roads and normal tires are better on wet roads.
2. 4WD cars have the obvious advantage in low grip situations, they might be useful if you're planning to go on a streak.
3. Learn to use manual transmission (shift assist off). The automatic transmission shifts way too quickly and you can't do an engine brake. There are also a few Wanderers who require manual transmission.
4. NA engines heat up slower than turbo engines for obvious reasons, not having a turbo isn't always a disadvantage.
5. If you are new to the game, choose Tokyo as your first city. It's more technical than the fairly straightforward Nagoya and Osaka and the AI are more prone in making mistakes.
6. Use normal tires in the rain, it grips better than slick tires.
7. During the rain, your temperatures barely rise and you lose grip much slower than normal. The rain can be advantageous especially if you're planning on a streak.
8. Before a boss challenges you, wait at the replay menu screen until you're near a corner. That way, you can get ahead of the boss at the corner because the AI is bad at cornering. Most of the time the bosses will leave you behind at straightaways, get ahead of them and watch your rear view mirrors.
9. Save up to buy carbon fiber aero parts because the other two materials add quite some weight.
10. Doing the mileage trick might help in racking up miles for an engine swap.
11. Installing body reinforcements and a rear spoiler respectively add rigidity and downforce, which improve cornering stability especially in high speeds. Remove them if you want to go faster in a straight line since they add weight.
12. Use turn signals to signal a trailing opponent to follow you. Do not do this in the last possible second because the opponent might not see the signal and turn the wrong way, resulting in a draw which ends your win combo and spawns an annoying pink icon on the map.
13. To make wanderers spawn quicker and more frequently, be sure to clear most teams on their route.
How to Do The Mileage Trick
Unlike its predecessor TXR Zero, TXR 3 doesn't count miles travelled when you are in the post-race menu, which means your mileage don't go up by leaving the game there.
Here are some steps you can do to beat the system:
1. Race someone, the result of the race doesn't matter.
2. Press any button in the result screen to go to the post-race menu.
3. DON'T PRESS ANYTHING YET!!
4. Eject the CD. If you're playing on an emulator, select "No Disc" in the ISO selection.
5. Once the roads disappear and the music stops, hit free roam.
6. The car will get stuck in autopilot until you put the disc back in.
7. Do not press anything until the roads re-appear and the music starts playing.
8. Once the game is back to normal, it is suggested to go back to the garage and save.
9. It is suggested to do this in sessions to prevent wear and tear on your hardware.
Engine Swap Information and Tips
1. To gain access to engine swap, you should have at least 1242 miles (2000 km) on your ODO meter.
2. You can only swap the engine of the car you racked the miles with.
3. Once you completed the game 100%, engine swap becomes available without racking up miles.
4. There are 12 types of engine you can swap, 5 NA engine swaps and 7 turbo engine swaps.
5. Generally, the L type NA engines are pretty useless, so it would be wise to ignore them.
6. Most of the time the "bigger" option is better, except for a few cars.
7. The L6 turbo engine offers the second highest horsepower and great acceleration while maintaining a good top end performance. Often considered the best engine swap.
8. The V8 turbo engine offers the highest horsepower and top end performance due to the high top end power at the cost of acceleration. It also only has 5 gears and is the heaviest engine of them all.
9. The F6 turbo engine offers a good balance between acceleration and top end performance, and is usually the most torquey one.
10. The RE turbo engine normally doesn't offer high power or torque, but it's the lightest engine and has the distinctive high-rev rotary scream.
11. Some NA engine swaps give more power than their turbo counterparts depending on the car swapped.
Enduros and Three Car Battles
There are a few of them in the game. The general tip is to maintain your SP as high as possible because you face opponents with 100% SP with whatever amount of SP you have left. If your SP is lower than 50% the time you beat an opponent, it will be refilled up to 50% for the next opponent.
Enduro Battles
Enduro battles are battles where you race 3 or more rivals consecutively. Once you have drained the SP of a rival, another rival will challenge you.
1. No Loser 3-car enduro (Osaka stage 1)
2. Odawara siblings 4-car enduro (Tokyo stage 2)
3. Nagoya's Three Dragons (Nagoya stage 2)
4. Darts Skyline trio (Osaka stage 2)
Three Car Battles
Three car battles are battles where you have to beat two rivals simultaneously in a 2v1 battle.
1. Rolling Guy leader and second in command (Tokyo stage 1)
2. Seeks and Genesis R leaders (Nagoya stage 1)
3. Wanderer RX-7 teammates (Osaka stage 1)
4. VIP Project leader and second in command (Osaka stage 1)
5. No Loser teammates (Osaka stage 1)
6. Shoryu Group generals (Osaka stage 2)
7. Shoryu Group leader and bodyguard (Osaka stage 2)
8. Darts leader and second in command (Osaka stage 2)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hello Shutokou Battle fans!! I'm Jinsoul and I am a big fan of the Shutokou Battle series. I have played Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3, its predecessor Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero, and the PSP spinoff Street Supremacy. I started playing these Wangan Expressway games since I'm a fan of Wangan Midnight and I've played Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune for more than 10 years.
I have beaten TXR3 three times. I am lowkey struggling with the closing stages of TXR Zero because I haven't unlocked the mileage parts yet. I got into the Shutokou Battle series after watching this playthrough by Empty Box. I first watched the series around mid-2019, but didn't play the game until April 2020 because I no longer have a PS2 and my old laptop was a potato. I started playing the game as soon as I got a new laptop and while it's not the most powerful laptop, it runs the game just fine.
Other than Empty Box, I also watch the playthroughs of Kingdom Twelve and MyogiWarrior34. At the moment they are my favorite TXR content creators and I swear I don't get paid a cent to promote them but please support these guys on YouTube. I'm considering to make my own TXR content once I'm done with my college graduation project, simply because I made this Carrd site during my free time and creating YouTube content would take too much time.
What does the blonde girl above have to do with my guide? It's simple, Jinsoul is not my real name, it's hers. She is Jung Jinsoul, a member of K-pop girl group LOONA and I'm a fan of her. In fact, I use her name in every single racing game I play because it's cool.
